What It Really Means to Walk in Your Truth — Even When It Costs You Everything

I work with people every single day who are in the middle of a battle they never expected. A divorce. A relapse. A wake-up call. A breakdown that doesn’t look anything like it does in the movies — it’s quieter. It shows up as complete exhaustion, avoidance, numbing, snapping at the people you love, hating your job, forgetting what joy feels like, and asking questions like: How the hell did I get here?

In my clinical work, I sit with people who whisper the truth they’ve been too afraid to say out loud. People who feel broken, not enough, or like they’ve been pretending for so long they can’t find their way back to who they are. And I tell them what I’ve had to learn myself: You don’t find your way back by pretending you’re okay. You find your way back by getting real. And real is messy. Real is hard. Real is also where the fire lives. I didn’t always walk in my truth. There have been times in my life where I made choices that felt safer than honest. I tried to do what made sense on paper. I stayed places I had outgrown. I listened to everyone else but myself. And then there came a point where the price of abandoning myself became too high. And I couldn’t do it anymore.

Walking in your truth doesn’t mean everything gets easier. In fact, it usually gets harder first. You might lose relationships. You might be misunderstood. You might disappoint people. But you will wake up and recognize the person in the mirror again.

That’s what healing is about — coming home to yourself. This is why I create journals. Not because I think journaling is cute or trendy or fluffy — but because I believe that when women sit down with a pen and tell the truth, things start to shift.

You don’t need a perfect plan or a perfect life to begin. You just need to show up for yourself. So if you’ve been putting off your own truth — this is your permission slip.

Write your truth. Heal like hell. Reclaim your fire.
