Friendship Isn’t Supposed to Feel Heavy
Stop calling it normal when it’s just exhausting.
Let’s say this out loud:
You’re not supposed to feel worse after talking to a friend.
You’re not supposed to:
• Dread their phone call.
• Make that big sigh before you answer.
• Feel your body tighten at the sound of their voice.
• Get annoyed when their name lights up your phone.
• Feel like you’re performing just to keep the peace.
• Walk on eggshells so they don’t spiral or snap.
That’s not friendship — that’s emotional weight.
That’s a slow drip of burnout disguised as connection.
You are allowed to outgrow the energy that drains you. You are allowed to stop explaining your boundaries to people who only hear their own needs. You are allowed to say, “This no longer feels good to me,” and walk away with love.
Real friendships don’t require performance.
Real friendships don’t make you question your worth.
Real friendships don’t leave you emotionally bankrupt.
So if your gut is whispering that something feels off —
It’s not being dramatic.
It’s being honest.
And that’s your invitation to listen.
