When You Choose Truth: What It Really Takes to Disrupt the Patterns That No Longer Serve You
There comes a moment when the discomfort of staying quiet outweighs the fear of speaking your truth. I’ve lived it — both personally and professionally. As a clinician, I’ve sat across from women unraveling decades of conditioning, women terrified of disrupting the peace, of being labeled “too much,” “too emotional,” or “too complicated.” And as a woman myself, I’ve made the decision to walk away from relationships, patterns, and expectations that were crushing my spirit.
Let’s be honest: standing in your truth can cost you. It can cost you approval, comfort, and even connection — at least temporarily. But what you gain? Clarity. Peace. A freedom that lives in your bones. A fire that’s unshakable.
Disrupting old systems—family roles, unhealthy relationships, codependent dynamics—often means you’ll be met with resistance. You’ll be misunderstood. People might try to guilt you, shame you, or pull you back into the version of yourself that made them more comfortable. But here’s the truth no one tells you loud enough: your healing will always be more important than their comfort.
Over the years, I’ve worked with countless women (and teens, and men too) who made the brave decision to choose themselves. Some walked away from toxic marriages. Others stepped back from families that refused to honor their boundaries. Some made the terrifying decision to stop people-pleasing, even when that meant being called selfish.
And in my own life? I’ve had to make those choices too. The decisions I made after experiencing deep loss, the ones that people didn’t understand, caused fractures in relationships I once thought were unbreakable. I know what it’s like to walk through fire — not because you want to be a rebel, but because you refuse to keep abandoning yourself.
Disrupting patterns is brave. It’s holy. And yes, it’s hard as hell. But staying in places that hurt you just to keep the peace? That’s not peace. That’s self-betrayal. Your truth may shake things up. But your truth will also save you.
If you’re in the middle of the unraveling, keep going. The other side is where your clarity lives. And if you need a place to process it all — the fear, the grief, the fire — our guided journals are here to hold space for your truth.
